Flying ant peak on Thursday 1 August
- Details
- 02 August 2013
Flying ants were sighted early this year and were seen regularly in the last week of July. A large peak, however, came on Thursday 1 August. Sightings were reported from around the UK, with particularly high numbers in Manchester and Sheffield. Closer analysis of data from the flying ant survey will reveal regional patterns.
Dr Rebecca Nesbit from the Society of Biology said: "We saw a sudden increase in the number of flying ants reported, and are very grateful for everyone who has taken the time to log their sightings. There is still time to submit your records, and we may well see more flying ants over the coming days."
