Year 12 students are invited to tackle biological challenges in the labs and grounds of the University of Central Lancashire
This one-day interschool academic competition is designed to engage A-level students from local secondary schools and colleges, and aims to foster an intellectual challenge among high-achieving students within a collaborative and skill building environment.
Teams of four year 12 students will be set 10 rounds of knowledge-based and problem solving questions spanning a comprehensive range of biological disciplines. These questions will be presented and evaluated by experts in their respective fields.
Topics include:
- Cancer ecology
- Neuroscience
- Wildlife photography
- Entomology - identification
- Infection diagnosis
- Marine conservation
- Owl pellet investigation
- Plant structure
- Tree identification
This session will also include presentations for teachers delivered by doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, as well as faculty members from the University of Central Lancashire.
Prizes, including advanced biology texts, will be awarded to the winning and runner-up teams and all participants will receive certificates of recognition for their involvement.
Participants
This competition is aimed at A-level students in year 12 of study.

Bookings for this event have now closed.
Teachers must register on behalf of their students. The cost is £30 per team, with each team consisting of four Year 12 students. Please note that only one team per school may enter.
