An exclusive event as part of the RSB Plant Health Series, at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew during Biology Week.

Join the Royal Society of Biology for a visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, one of the UK's most impressive and important botanical research institutions that houses the "largest and most diverse botanical and mycological collections in the world", for an event as part of the RSB Plant Health Series.

Attendees will hear from a series of expert speakers, including representatives from the Centre for Forest Protection who will be discussing their ongoing projects, as well as an overview of genomic and tree health research taking place at Kew.

Following this, we are offering several guided tours of the facilities:

  • Plant Quarantine Unit tour (40 minutes) - From inspecting plant material, eradicating pests and pathogens and aiding the police, APHA and UK Border Force to prevent illegal wildlife trade, Kew's Quarantine Unit is responsible for keeping all plants in Kew's living collection safe. This tour will be delivered by David Hicks, plant health officer at Kew.
  • Fungarium tour (30 minutes) - Holding over 1.25 million dried specimens, Kew's fungarium collection is the largest, one of the oldest, and most scientifically important in the world. The tour will be lead by Lee Davies, fungarium collections manager.
  • Herbarium tour - Kew's Herbarium contains around seven million preserved vascular plant specimens, that contain a wealth of information about plants that have been collected around the world over the past 170 years.
More tours too be announced.

Please note: There are limited spaces available and attendees can choose one tour per booking. Further times may be added subject to interest and availability. Please specify which tour you would like to go on when booking.

Entry to the gardens is included as well as tea and coffee, however lunch will not be provided.
