Sequencing genomes: we need to think ahead
Producing genomic data is increasingly cheap, easy and widespread, but will it be useful?

A range of ambitious research programmes around the world aim to sequence the genomes of hundreds of thousands of people with rare genetic disorders and cancer, as well as the genomes of their cancers. This will generate a huge amount of data, which will need to be analysed carefully to determine what genetic variation is important and what is incidental.
